Course Description

The Diploma in Perioperative Technology at Royo College of Medical and Health Sciences is a 3-year program designed to train students in the skills required to support surgical teams during operations. Graduates of this program will become proficient in assisting with preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care, ensuring the smooth functioning of the operating room environment and patient safety.

Admission Requirements

To qualify for this diploma program, applicants must meet the following minimum KCSE requirements:

✅ Mean Grade: C (Plain) or higher

✅ English/Kiswahili: C (Plain) or higher

✅ Biology/Chemistry: C (Plain) or higher

✅ Mathematics/Physics: C- (Minus) or higher

Course Content

The curriculum covers various aspects of perioperative care, including:

💉 Introduction to Perioperative Technology – Understanding the role of the perioperative technologist in the operating room

🩺 Anatomy and Physiology – Knowledge of the human body relevant to surgical procedures

🔬 Sterilization and Infection Control – Techniques for preventing infections and ensuring a sterile environment

💊 Surgical Instruments and Equipment – Familiarization with surgical tools, their uses, and maintenance

🩻 Anesthesia Support – Assisting anesthesia teams and understanding anesthetic procedures

👩‍⚕️ Preoperative and Postoperative Care – Preparing patients for surgery and providing postoperative care and monitoring

💉 Surgical Procedures and Techniques – Assisting in surgeries and understanding various types of procedures

Students will undergo clinical rotations in hospitals, where they will gain hands-on experience in operating rooms, working with surgical teams, and directly interacting with patients.
